Sexual Orientation Discrimination Affecting Mental Health
Why do people judge what is different and what they don’t understand?
As much humanity has advanced and evolved to venture to capture images in deep space—and use technology as an extension of ourselves—too many people are still unwilling to accept others for who they really are. The misconceptions amassed from an intake of regulated programming have both limited and expanded our beliefs. On many levels, media has opened our eyes and most people get along okay with what is, as long as it doesn’t hit too close to home. It’s only when it does, many of us will have no choice but to find understanding and respect for differing views and preferences especially when it comes to sexuality.
Sexual orientation discrimination can lead to severe mental health issues for individuals who choose against what’s regarded as normal.
Outside the normal may be natural after all
Sexual preferences should never be a matter dictated by government or society. Religions that have taken a stand against what they don’t consider normal have served to further divide people. It’s no wonder these established conventions are slowly fading. By and large progressive societies are moving quickly now, past intolerances towards acceptance and love for those who have dared to step outside the normal.
The discovery of one’s sexual energy is a confusing state for many youths who have been reared in secluded or outdated paradigms. Confusion related to sexuality is heightened when challenging sensations in the body incite inclinations that go against what an individual perceives as acceptable. Deep emotional conflicts can arise making individuals feel torn. There’s grave potential for self-destructive patterns to emerge if someone is faced with criticism and ridicule because their sexual orientation goes against the norm.
A 2011 analysis of recent surveys revealed 3.5% of the adult population in the United States (US) is either gay, lesbian, or bisexual, with nearly another ¾ million transgender. According to one source the number of LGBT population of the US has more than doubled in recent years due to increased disclosure among younger people. In Canada, 4.4% of the population aged 15 years and older is reported as falling into the LBGTQ+ category. These statistics may well be under-reported given the stigma still associated with these lifestyles.
People who go against the normal need a strong character to live within the marginalization of society. This is especially the case for anyone whose sexual preferences are not perceived as natural. In reality, natural is all encompassing.
Sexual expression across lifetimes
The unnatural is actually the opposite when we’re able to conceive we’ve lived other lifetimes. The majority of awakened Souls have opened their minds enough to grasp the concept of reincarnation. Life is eternal, and is lived through various incarnations into the physical realm to experience life in a dualistic dimension. Denied by some major religions, reincarnation is accepted by most spiritual faiths.
This belief helps humans transcend judgements and unifies rather than divides. It’s perfectly expected an evolved human being will experience a multitude of emotions and drives having lived other lifetimes as either sex. Perpetuating confusion in this regard by keeping outdated views is unnecessary. Let’s not add to the spell of narrow-mindedness that keeps the wheels of criticism and judgements turning.
Ushering acceptance
As freedom of choice expands and transforms what is viewed as normal, hearts open to the unique authenticity of individuals instead of clinging to inequality based on judgements.
When this dawning day arrives, there’ll be less confusion for those who choose other sexual lifestyles. They’ll not know shame or guilt. The emotional turmoil that brings serious self-damaging addictions and behaviours will no longer take hold. There’ll be no need for terms like LGBTQ to define and separate segments of the population who are simply exercising their rights and freedom.
If you’re someone--or know of anyone--struggling with integration of their natural self because they’re going against what’s perceived as normal sexual behaviour, the video on our blog “Suicide Does Not End Life” points to available help.
We are near the time when the illusion of separation completely crumbles. We’re all part of the whole. What a dull experience life would be if we all thought and acted the same. Let’s celebrate our differences and help put an end to sexual orientation discrimination because inside we are all the same regardless. We’re all awakening to the freedom of unconditional love.
