What is Reiki?

Reiki—meaning universal life-force energy—is an ancient Japanese therapeutic touch healing technique used to bring positive energy and relaxation. It is based on channeling the invisible "universal life-force energy," the energy that keeps everything in the world animate including you.

The practice of Reiki is the most non-invasive therapy to improve overall health and wellness. There is no physical manipulation of the participant. Qualified practitioners in Reiki concentrate on energy imbalances and blockages. They can sense where energy is lacking.

Reiki is regarded as complementary and supportive to conventional treatments.

Reiki is typically performed by trained practitioners who use specific hand positions to encourage flow of the client’s own energy. There are up to 32 different hand positions from which a Reiki practitioner may choose depending on what the client is dealing with. The Reiki practitioner may hold his or her hands slightly above the client, or a light touch may be used. Reiki will not interfere with any other treatments.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE THERAPY

Reiki now regarded as an alternative medicine therapy, like others such as acupuncture, Reiki is about keeping energy moving throughout the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture to remove blockages in the flow of energy by placing needles at particular points on the body. Reiki helps with energy flow too, but uses a much gentler approach than acupuncture or massage. Reiki, the intelligent and creative universal life force energy, is directed by the practitioner to any blockages in energy pathways to bring balance and flow. Clearing and releasing blockages interfering with the flow of “universal life-force energy” helps you remain in, or return to, a balanced and natural state of wellness.

The energy therapy of Reiki helps clear the mind and body of unwanted thoughts, beliefs, and attachments that interfere with well-being. When a person's "life-force energy" is low, sickness and feeling unwell become normal. Reiki helps by enhancing flow to promote healing.

Factors that deplete this energy include poor lifestyle choices, stress, traumas, as well as negative thoughts, patterns, and subconscious scripts.

Reiki is gently effective in stress and anxiety relief, and is classified with other complementary and integrative therapies of holistic health.

Reiki treatments are covered by some extended health insurance plans under Complementary Medicine as therapeutic touch or something similar to it.

HOW DOES REIKI WORK?

The “universal life-force energy” is defined by science as the sub-atomic energy that underlies all matter. In humans, this energy is produced not strictly as the result of one’s physiological nature, but also the lifestyle adopted, and how they relate to life.

Reiki energy medicine is an effective and gentle technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It’s impossible to heal when in a stressful state. By working on not only the physical, but also the emotional, mental, and spiritual levels, Reiki treats and facilitates healing the whole person. Institute of Reiki leads the way in dealing with emotions to affect the physical in an empowering manner.

By helping relieve and release stress and anxiety, Reiki helps facilitate recovery and healing. Reiki accelerates the process of healing inherently present in everyone.

Decreased heart rate, and relief from fear, insomnia, pain, and stress have been observed with patients in hospital settings. Reiki sessions are now offered globally in many hospitals.

REIKI TREATMENT PROCEDURE

Throughout the Reiki treatment, the Reiki practitioner becomes a channel to bring "universal life force energy” through their hands placed at various locations on the recipient's fully-clothed body. Practitioners are trained to recognize, sense, and correct energetic imbalances, and are intuitively guided throughout the treatment procedure as to where to direct and amplify the energy if necessary.

If someone is uncomfortable with the hands-on application, a floating-hands method can also be used. In this way the practitioner's hands do not touch the client. They're held floating a few inches away from the body as in the above photo.

Some people find touch soothing. and helpful to relax. Every person has their own preference. Both methods are equally effective.

Distant healing sessions are equally effective as in person. Energy is not restricted by distance. This is especially beneficial for individuals who are unable to get out for any reason, or those who are reluctant or shy.
